Air Pollution
Indoor air quality is affected by many types of pollutants.  Burning fuels such as wood releases particulate matter and soot into the air.  Exposure to smoke can aggravate many health issues like asthma, bronchitis, and lung disease.  Noxious gases such as carbon monoxide are issues in homes, causing death when exposed to high levels.  Cooking over high temperatures may cause PAHs to be released into the air and into food, damaging kidneys and livers.  Improper ventilation can lead to increased levels of radon in basements, a radioactive gas known as the second-leading cause of lung cancer.
